A knight is sworn to valor.
His heart knows only virtue.
His blade defends the helpless.
His word speaks only truth.
His Shield shelters the forsaken.
His courage gives hope to the despairing.
His justice undoes the wicked.
His image brings peace.
His code breaks the darkness,
His legend brings light.

The Knight’s Code is a system whereby Knights dedicate themselves to a life of serving and defending those who are less able than themselves. As a system it was in place in Medieval Europe in various forms, and is not unlike the Jedi Code, except with a more combat-oriented focus.

A knight is sworn to valor.
Valour is defined as “great courage in the face of danger, especially battle”. This implies the Knight will seek situations where battle rages and act with courage for their cause. Valour is certainly applicable to acts requiring great courage outside of the battlefield as well, but the Knight is inherently prepared to put themselves in harm’s way in order to act courageously in pursuit of their cause.

His heart knows only virtue.
Virtue is defined as “behaviour showing high moral standards”, meaning the Knight can only act from a position of great moral authority. The Knight holds morality as a personal standard within themselves, rather than some secondary or conceptual objective truth. For the Knight, it is a fundamental element of reality and passionate belief that the moral act is what is right.

His blade defends the helpless.
The Knight’s blade is the tool by which the Knight exerts their will. It is through the force of their will that they can offer defence to those who have no power to help themselves. Will can be exerted in many ways without resorting to a literal blade; through the proper use of any skill or talent, with correct focus and wisdom, the Knight can make a difference in the name of those less capable than themselves.

His word speaks only truth.
The Knight is defined by the sincerity and honest of their word. Truth is honourable and virtuous; deception the opposite. As such, the Knight is honest and genuine in their interactions. They say only what they can truly know, and mean it with all of their being.

His Shield shelters the forsaken.
Similar to the Knight’s vow to use their blade in defence of the helpless, the Knight offers succour to those who are abandoned or deserted by all others, relieving their burden and protecting even the most damaged and slighted individual. The Knight’s shield is not always a literal shield; again, it implies the correct application of any skill or talent which can lend support to those without it.

His courage gives hope to the despairing.
Further to their being sworn to valour, Knights act with courage even in the face of overwhelming odds in support of those around them. This also plays into the vow to shield the forsaken; the Knight doesn’t submit meekly to fate, but fights on even when all seems desperate around them, and in doing so provides his comrades and confederates an inspirational example of bravery and courage.

His justice undoes the wicked.
The Knight is just in all he does, and does not fear dispensing justice on those who warrant it. Unafraid of wrongdoers, and master of the Knight’s own skills, offence, defence and central core. As such the Knight can overcome any and all wrong they encounter by being just in thought and action, ready to act and sure of themselves.

His image brings peace.
As a bringer of harmony and a strong and noble sentinel of justice, the Knight can bestow peace simply by being present. Their inner harmony and surety in the right path (and pure motive) can influence those around them, to the extent even their name can become a symbol of a better way for those around them.

His code breaks the darkness,
By adhering to the tenets laid down in the code, the Knight need not fear darkness; they possess the antidote, in the strengths they cultivate in order to become a knight, and in the inner sanctity their development gives them. The Knight can face down darkness without self-doubt or apprehension about their own ability. The Knight will overcome all darkness by nature of being a Knight – the fact they have become one allows them the self-confidence to act with certainty.

His legend brings light
As with the line on their image bringing peace, so too can word of the Knight travel before them and influence those who encounter their story. Through their noble, just and appropriate actions, they are remembered and brought to mind as an example by those who have encountered them. By behaving correctly and nobly, the Knight will not be forgotten; even in death, the choices they made, the courage they displayed and their mastery of themselves live on.
